This is a problem for people who enjoy stone-moving games
Dear Clive, Hi and thanks for the game!
I just can't express how proud-out-of-my-wits I feel solving it seemingly the first after seeing attempts by Mathias and Vladimir. Especially after I initially tried straightforward approach of figuring out winnable and losing positions - perhaps this may work but my mind is weak to embrase various cases.
Now I'm curious how you happened to come up with this - it feels somewhat unusual among your puzzles :)
Rodion,
Congratulations on becoming the first solver of this puzzle. It's actually somewhat surprising that I haven't submitted more puzzles of this kind, given that I am actually quite interested in the class of games known as impartial games. I have certainly submitted at least two puzzles in this category before. There may be more but I really can't remember. I am also interested in partisan games and have one or two ideas for puzzles in this area. They are however, rather more complicated than impartial games.
I know of the theory, but I don't really know the theory. And it was used before here ...
